In a major vigilance crackdown, the Executive Engineer of the Rural Development Department in Rayagada, Prasanna Pattnaik, has been arrested for allegedly taking a ₹2 lakh bribe from a contractor just days before his retirement. The engineer was caught red-handed while demanding money for processing bills and issuing work experience certificates related to tender procedures. Following his arrest, Vigilance teams conducted simultaneous raids at his Bhubaneswar residence in Nandan Vihar Basundhara Colony, ancestral house in Nayagarh, Rayagada government quarters, and office, recovering cash and uncovering luxury arrangements. The officer was scheduled to retire on the 30th of this month.
