A tragic road accident occurred at Palabani in Baripada, Mayurbhanj district, where a speeding dumper reportedly ran over people engaged in a rescue operation. According to the source, the incident claimed two lives, while several others sustained critical injuries and are undergoing treatment.
The mishap occurred after a timber-laden vehicle overturned on the road. Local residents, police personnel, Forest Department officials and media representatives had gathered at the site for rescue work when the dumper allegedly lost control, rammed into the overturned vehicle and ploughed into the people present there.
Police have seized the dumper and launched an investigation into the incident. The condition of several injured persons remains critical, according to the source.
