Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Pravati Parida has defended the expenditure of over ₹85 lakh on the Pakhala Divas celebration. Responding to the controversy, she said that when attempting a Guinness World Records feat, arrangements have to be made on a grand scale. She acknowledged that Pakhala is traditionally regarded as a common man's meal but added that showcasing it on the global stage across multiple countries requires extensive planning and proper presentation. According to her, Odisha should not compromise on promoting its rich culinary heritage before the world.
