Vehicle owners in Odisha could now face increased accountability if their vehicles are involved in crimes or accidents. The Transport Department has issued fresh instructions to all RTOs, making proper address verification mandatory during vehicle registration. Under the new measures, vehicles will not be registered without a valid address proof, with Aadhaar set to become the primary identity and address document for verification purposes. The move is aimed at ensuring that vehicle owners remain traceable and cannot evade responsibility in cases involving criminal activities or road accidents linked to their vehicles.
