Summer vacation likely to be extended in Odisha schools amid prevailing heatwave

The Odisha government is likely to extend the summer vacation in schools across the state in view of the prevailing heatwave condition.

As per reports, the state government is likely to take a decision in this regard after reviewing the situation.

Nityananda Gond, School and Mass Education Minister indicated that the government is considering the possibility of extending the ongoing summer break. The decision, however, will depend on the weather conditions and the intensity of the heat across the state in the coming days.

Decision To Depend On Heatwave Situation

According to the minister, the decision will be taken after closely monitoring the heatwave conditions before taking a final call on the reopening of schools.

“The decision will be taken after assessing the prevailing heatwave conditions across the state. The health and safety of students remain the government's top priority, and a decision on extending the summer vacation will be made accordingly,” he said.

While monsoon is expected to reach the Odisha coast by mid-June, reports suggest that weather patterns could be influenced by the El Niño effect, potentially leading to a rise in temperatures and heatwave conditions.

Schools Earlier Scheduled To Reopen On June 22

The state government had earlier announced that schools would reopen on June 22 following the summer vacation.

However, with concerns over the prevailing heat conditions, the possibility of extending the holiday period is now under consideration.

An official announcement on the matter is expected once the government completes its assessment of the heatwave conditions.
