Mukesh Ambani hails Dhurandhar’s historic box office run, calls franchise a record-breaking phenomenon

Aditya Dhar’s espionage blockbuster Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, has emerged as one of the most successful franchises in Indian cinema. Beyond its impact on the box office, the film series has significantly strengthened the position of Jio Studios, the entertainment arm backed by Mukesh Ambani. With the franchise crossing the ₹3,000-crore mark globally, the Reliance Industries chairman has publicly acknowledged its extraordinary achievement.

Ambani Highlights Jio Studios’ Winning Streak

According to The Indian Express, Mukesh Ambani addressed shareholders through a letter in which he reflected on Jio Studios’ remarkable journey and the pivotal role played by the Dhurandhar franchise in setting new industry standards.

In the letter, Ambani stated, “Jio Studios has achieved the unique distinction of having the highest-grossing film three years in a row with Stree 2 in 2024, Dhurandhar in 2025, and Dhurandhar: The Revenge in 2026, demonstrating consistency and undisputed leadership. FY 2025-26 saw Jio Studios release the record-smashing spy action thrillers Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge (together the Dhurandhar franchise), creating new benchmarks in box office performance, release strategy, monetisation models and customer engagement globally."

The statement underlined how the studio has maintained its dominance at the box office while expanding its influence across multiple aspects of film distribution and audience engagement.

First Film Set Records, Sequel Raised the Bar Further

Reflecting on the franchise’s unprecedented success, Ambani also emphasized how the original film rewrote box-office history before its sequel surpassed those achievements.

He wrote, “The first part on its own created a record to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The film enjoyed an unprecedented run of 15 straight weeks until the second part arrived in cinemas amid massive anticipation and went on to shatter records set by the first film."

The comments highlight the rare feat achieved by the franchise, with both installments dominating theatres and sustaining audience interest for months.

A ₹3,000-Crore Franchise

Directed by Aditya Dhar, both Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge enjoyed exceptional commercial success. As per Sacnilk, the sequel alone earned ₹1,812.96 crore worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film in history, trailing only the acclaimed film Dangal starring Aamir Khan.

Combined, the two films have amassed more than ₹3,000 crore globally, cementing Dhurandhar as one of Indian cinema’s most lucrative franchises.
