Indic AI startup funding surges 17-fold to $399 million in 2026, driven by Sarvam: Report
Companies that build artificial intelligence (AI) for Indian languages raised $399 million in disclosed equity funding so far this year, more than 17 times the $23 million in 2025, according to Tracxn’s Indic AI: Building AI for Bharat report. The report covers 34 companies tracked by Tracxn, with data up to 15 October 2026, and Tracxn said two rounds by one company, Sarvam, totalled $346 million, about 87 per cent of that amount. The number of rounds was nine in both years, so the rise came from larger rounds, the report said.Without Sarvam, the companies have raised $54 million across seven rounds so far this year, compared with $23 million across nine rounds in 2025.Tracxn sorted the 34 companies into two groups, 18 for which Indian-language capability is the product itself and 16 for which it is a strength within a broader product.
The first group held $452 million, or 66 per cent, of all-time disclosed capital, against $234 million for the second.Tracxn recorded only two exits, both in 2019 and both by Reliance group companies: Haptik, bought by Reliance Jio, and Reverie Language Technologies, bought by a Reliance Industries subsidiary.Every round recorded between 2021 and October 2026 was at seed or early stage, and the set had yet to record a late-stage round.Tracxn said the first late-stage round in the set would signal that at least one company had moved from building to scaling.
