Four workers from Odisha’s Kendrapara stranded in Thailand, appeal for rescue through video message
Four workers from Odisha's Kendrapara district have appealed for urgent assistance after allegedly being stranded in Thailand.
The workers, through a video message, have sought intervention from the Odisha Government and the Kendrapara MP to facilitate their rescue and return home.
Workers Allege Non-Payment of Wages
The four youths, three from Rajkanika and one from Aul, reportedly travelled to Thailand a year ago with the help of an agent on tourist visas. They later began working at a plywood company.
The workers have alleged that the company owner has not paid their salaries for the last three to four months. They further claimed that whenever they demand their dues, they are threatened with police action.
"They brought us here for work, but our passports have been withheld for the past year and our salaries have not been paid. Whenever we raise the issue, we are allegedly threatened that the police will be called and we will be detained here. We appeal to the government to rescue us and help us return home," the workers alleged.
Officials in Touch With Families
Kendrapara District Labour Officer said officials are in constant contact with the families of the workers. He added that a request regarding their rescue would soon be sent to the state government.
The situation has created anxiety among the families of the stranded workers, who are awaiting their safe return. Meanwhile, the workers have reiterated their appeal for immediate intervention through a video message circulated online.
