Public toilets under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will no longer remain free of charge. Citizens will now have to pay a fee to use BMC-managed toilet facilities in the city.
The decision was taken by BMC following a letter from the Housing and Urban Development Department directing that all such facilities be converted into paid services.
Meanwhile, the move has drawn criticism from city residents, with many expressing dissatisfaction over the decision. The issue has triggered discussions among citizens in Bhubaneswar regarding the impact of the new user charges.
