Youth goes missing in Mahanadi while taking ritual dip after grandmother's cremation, search ops underway

A youth was reportedly swept away while he was taking a dip in the Mahanadi River as per the ritual after the cremation of his grandmother near Ghoradia in Cuttack’s Narsinghpur area on Friday. 

The missing youth has been identified as Aditya Mallik, son of Prafulla Mallik of Dhanipur village. Rescue teams have launched a search operation, but his body was not recovered at the time of reporting.

Incident Occurred During Ritual Bath

According to reports, Aditya went to the Mahanadi river along with his two friends. He reportedly visited the river to take a ritual dip after performing the last rites of his grandmother.

During the course of the bath, he allegedly ventured into deeper waters and went missing in the river. The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be established.

Rescue Operation Underway

Sources said Aditya's friends attempted to rescue him after noticing that he was in difficulty in the water. However, their efforts were unsuccessful.

Following the incident, personnel from the local Fire Services department and officials of Narasinghpur police reached the spot and initiated a search operation. 

Authorities are yet to recover the body, and search operations remain underway in the area.
