Questions are being raised over the collapse of a portion of the road near Madhu Setu on the Mahanadi ring embankment in Cuttack following continuous rainfall. Despite several days having passed since the incident, there has reportedly been no clear response regarding the reasons behind the cave-in or responsibility for the damage. The incident has once again brought attention to earlier allegations that the road expansion work between Madhusudan Setu in Markatnagar and Chahata Chhak, covering a stretch of around 2.4 kilometres, was being executed in a substandard manner. The collapse has intensified calls for an inquiry into the quality of construction and execution of the project.
