Continuous upstream rainfall has pushed the Mahanadi into spate, submerging roads and inundating villages across Subarnapur (Sonepur), Boudh, Binika, Banki, Athagarh, and Narsinghpur. Massive inflows continue into the Hirakud reservoir, and authorities estimate that nearly 9.5 lakh cusecs of water may pass through Mundali by tonight, increasing the likelihood of flooding in the Mahanadi's distributaries.
