Ram Charan’s ‘Peddi’ tribute backfires: Fan-made idol sparks online mockery, organisers apologise; watch

Excitement is reaching fever pitch for Peddi, the upcoming film starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor. With the film set to hit theatres on June 4, fans across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have been organizing celebrations to mark the release. However, one such tribute has unexpectedly triggered a wave of online criticism.

A group of Ram Charan fans in Hyderabad's Kukatpally installed a massive idol inspired by the actor's look from Peddi outside Arjun Theatre. The statue was unveiled in the presence of Pasupulati Siva, popularly known as Siva Cherry, President of RC Yuvashakthi and a member of the actor's team.

Idol Becomes Target of Online Trolls

What was intended as a grand show of admiration soon became the subject of social media jokes. Shortly after images of the idol surfaced online, users pointed out that it looked nothing like Ram Charan. While some felt the statue resembled Malayalam actor Joju George, others compared it to Telugu actor Naveen Chandra.

A few even joked that the idol looked more like Siva Cherry himself than the Peddi star.

“Super Anna, entaki adhi evari vigraham? (Super brother, by the way, whose idol is that?)” wrote one user on X.

Another commented, “Vallu cheyinchina vigraham Suryavardhan @AlwaysRamCharan di... Kani akkada unna vigraham Garudadi @eyrahul (They tried to make Ram Charan’s idol and ended up making Rahul Ramakrishna’s).”

Siva Cherry Defends Fans’ Efforts

As criticism intensified, Siva Cherry came forward in support of the fans and urged people to focus on the intention behind the tribute rather than its execution.

“It is easy to criticize from a distance, but every fan initiative is driven by genuine love and effort. This event was organized by the local Kukatpally Ram Charan fans. I have come across a few tweets criticizing the celebration, but I believe the focus should be on the emotion and dedication behind it,” he said.

He further added, “As the President of RC Yuvashakthi, I attended the event to support the fans and appreciate their passion for Ram Charan Garu. Every celebration is unique, but the emotion and dedication remain the same.”

Fans Issue Public Apology

Amid the backlash, the group behind the installation acknowledged that the tribute had not turned out as planned and apologised to fans and the public.

“We sincerely apologize to everyone. Our intention with the Ram Charan statue was to express our love, admiration, and devotion towards @AlwaysRamCharan in a unique way. Unfortunately, the execution did not meet expectations and turned out to be a misfire,” the statement read.

The organisers also clarified that there was no intention to offend anyone.

“We want to make it clear that we never intended to disrespect or hurt the sentiments of Sanatana Dharma or anyone associated with it. If our attempt has caused any discomfort, we deeply regret it,” they added.
