The rising cost of essential food items is putting fresh pressure on household budgets across Odisha. Sugar prices have increased by ₹10 per kg in the past month, while wheat flour (atta) and refined flour (maida) have become costlier by ₹5 per kg. Black gram (urad dal), edible oil and vegetables continue to witness sharp price hikes, with most vegetables selling above ₹50 per kg for the past 15 days. Consumers say managing monthly expenses has become increasingly difficult as the soaring prices of daily essentials continue to burden ordinary families.
