The upcoming Panchayat elections in Odisha are likely to witness a slight delay due to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. According to the Secretary of the State Election Commission, the polls may now be conducted in April or May, instead of the earlier expected schedule. Officials stated that the SIR exercise is expected to continue until the first week of March, making it difficult to hold elections before the revision work is completed. Meetings have already been conducted with Revenue Divisional Commissioners (RDCs) and District Collectors regarding election preparedness, while a routine review meeting has been scheduled for the 21st of this month to assess the progress of the electoral revision process and poll arrangements.
