At least three workers were killed and 21 others rescued after the roof of an under-construction factory collapsed in Kolkata's Taratala area. The major accident occurred on Tuesday when an under-construction warehouse shed suddenly caved in, trapping nearly 50 to 60 workers engaged in construction work. More than 20 workers are still feared trapped under the debris.
Fire Services personnel, along with the local administration and Army teams, are continuing rescue operations to pull out those trapped beneath the rubble. Injured workers have been shifted to hospitals, while the condition of several rescued labourers is reported to be critical.
According to eyewitnesses, the structure collapsed suddenly while construction work was underway. Gas cutters are being used to cut iron beams and cranes have been deployed to remove debris. Shubhendu Adhikari also reached the spot and reviewed the ongoing rescue operation.
