The Jajpur LED light scam has triggered intense public debate following the arrest of Dharanidhar Sahu, owner of Biraja Electricals. Once employed as a meter reader nearly two decades ago, Sahu is now alleged to have amassed assets worth crores. His firm, Biraja Electricals, had reportedly undertaken several electrification and lighting projects within Jajpur district and across other parts of Odisha.
Allegations have surfaced that Sahu secured multiple government tenders in Jajpur and other districts with the alleged support of a former Jajpur MLA. Questions have also been raised over alleged large-scale irregularities in the execution of these projects.
While the Vigilance investigation into the LED scam is underway, demands are growing to bring contractors, DRDA officials, district administration officers, power department officials and political leaders under the ambit of the probe. An RTI activist has sought strict action against government officials allegedly involved, while BJD leaders have stated that the ongoing Vigilance investigation will reveal the truth.
