Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy reflected on her political journey, saying she was an active student leader who enjoyed debates from a young age. She recalled that the BJP had little organizational presence in Ranpur when she began her political career and that she lost her first election by just 1,100 votes. Today, she says, people of all generations in Ranpur affectionately know her as "Surama Apa," describing it as the result of years of dedication and public service.
