A major controversy has erupted in Odisha's Jatra fraternity over the alleged 'dog' remark made by Jatra Swarnamahal co-producer and advisor Kshirod Swain. The comment has triggered sharp reactions from artistes and theatre owners across the state, leading to widespread criticism.
Artists and Jatra owners from Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Jaleswar and several other regions have strongly condemned the statement. Many performers, who depend on stage performances both for passion and livelihood, have expressed their resentment over the remark.
Meanwhile, Kabiraj Swain, producer of Jatra Swarnamahal and brother of Kshirod Swain, has come out in defence of his brother. Citing the 'Kha-Gila-Bhunja' analogy, he attempted to justify the controversial statement, even as the debate continues to intensify within the Jatra community.
