The Maharashtra Government is considering a major step to prevent child marriages by making it mandatory to print the bride and groom’s date of birth on wedding invitation cards. Speaking during the Monsoon Session of the Legislative Assembly, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said the move would help people verify the age of couples and enable authorities to act quickly if legal age norms are violated. The government aims to bring child marriage rates below 10 percent over the next five years.
