The first T20I between India and England was abandoned due to persistent rain before England could begin their chase. After winning the toss, India posted 189/7 in 20 overs, led by captain Shreyas Iyer's brilliant 68, while Abhishek Sharma scored 59 and Shivam Dube added 42. Sanju Samson was dismissed for a duck, and Ishan Kishan managed just one run. During his innings, Abhishek Sharma became the fifth Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in T20 Internationals. Continuous rainfall for nearly one-and-a-half hours forced officials to call off the match.
