Producers Guild of India raises alarm over last-minute walkouts amid Ranveer Singh's Don 3 exit controversy
The ongoing discussion surrounding Ranveer Singh's exit from Don 3 has now sparked a wider industry conversation. While the controversy has generated significant attention in recent weeks, the Producers Guild of India has chosen to address a larger issue that it believes is increasingly affecting film productions across the country — last-minute withdrawals from projects.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, the Producers Guild expressed concern over a growing trend of actors, directors and technicians stepping away from commitments shortly before filming begins. The statement came after the Guild received formal complaints from its member companies, Excel Entertainment and Panorama Studios.
Producers Guild Voices Concern Over Eleventh-Hour Withdrawals
The Guild's statement follows weeks of speculation surrounding Don 3 and reports linked to Ranveer Singh's departure from the highly anticipated franchise. However, notably, the organisation avoided mentioning either the actor or the project by name.
Addressing the issue, the Guild said, “There have been growing instances of talent, directors, and technicians, reneging on their commitments to producers, often at the eleventh hour. We, the Producers Guild of India, have also received formal complaints from our members, Excel Entertainment Private Limited and Panorama Studios International Limited regarding these issues coming up just days before the commencement of principal photography.”
The statement suggests that such incidents are no longer isolated cases and are becoming a recurring challenge for producers.
Industry Body Warns of Financial and Professional Consequences
According to the Producers Guild, abrupt exits can trigger serious repercussions for projects that are already deep into the planning and pre-production stages. Beyond financial losses, the organisation stressed that such actions can impact the broader ecosystem that supports film production.
The Guild stated, “No member of the industry should indulge in such behaviour that has, in these cases, led to substantial financial loss to our member producers as well as to other verticals in the industry. Such actions by any industry member have serious and far-reaching consequences and undermine the spirit of trust, professionalism, and mutual respect on which the film industry is built.”
It further noted that these developments can damage the reputation and commercial value of films while also affecting hundreds of crew members whose livelihoods depend on such projects.
Call for a Fair and Collaborative Working Environment
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the interests of the film fraternity, the Guild underscored the importance of maintaining a professional and disruption-free environment for content creation.
The statement added, “We would also like to state in no uncertain terms that the Guild always stands for a free and fair business environment without encouraging any encumbrances or disruptions to the process of content production. Any position to the contrary is not ethical and harms the collaborative spirit of our filmmaking community.”
Concluding its note, the Guild urged all stakeholders to settle disagreements through dialogue and mutual understanding, stating, “We urge all parties to resolve their disputes amicably and we will strive to protect the fraternity's interests.”

Don 3 Controversy Brings Larger Industry Issue Into Focus
The Guild's remarks come amid the controversy that emerged following reports of Ranveer Singh's exit from Don 3. The issue escalated after the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a non-cooperation directive against the actor. However, on Wednesday, FWICE withdrew the directive after receiving a legal notice from Ranveer Singh.
While the immediate dispute appears to be moving towards resolution, the Producers Guild's statement has shifted attention to a broader concern — the growing impact of last-minute project exits and the challenges they pose for the film industry's stability and professionalism.
