Odisha Police bust six-member robbery gang, seize Rs 5.5 lakh and 135 grams of gold
In a significant operation, the Khordha police on Thursday successfully dismantled a major robbery gang. According to police sources, the town police intercepted a car near the main road during routine vehicle checks when six young men were noticed exhibiting suspicious behaviour.
Acting on their instincts, officers stopped the vehicle and began questioning the occupants.
Cash, Gold, and Mobiles Recovered
A thorough search of the car led to the recovery of Rs 5.5 lakh in cash, 135 grams of gold, and several mobile phones. Further investigation revealed that all six individuals were professional robbers involved in multiple criminal activities. Following the recovery, the police confirmed that the accused have a history of organized thefts in the region.
All six accused have now been formally sent to court by the Khordha police, and further investigation is underway to determine if they are linked to other robbery incidents in the state.
“A drive against crime and criminals is underway. Under this, during our checking yesterday on the 3rd June, we intercepted a vehicle. Odisha Police has developed an AI-based facial recognition system app. When we took a photo of one of the occupants using this app, the AI system showed us his past criminal history. Upon further checking of their vehicle, we recovered Rs 5.5 lakh rupees. On further interrogation, it was revealed that these individuals were involved in several snatching and gold-related property offense cases. When questioned about the source of the cash, it was revealed that they had given the gold to a person named Raka. We apprehended him, and he led us to three other individuals who were receivers of the stolen property. In total, we have arrested six people,” informed Parmar Smit Parshottamdas, IPS, Superintendent of Police (SP), Khordha.
The operation has been widely praised for its swift action and effective policing, highlighting the vigilance of law enforcement in keeping the city safe. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity to authorities as police continue their crackdown on organized crime.
