ନଦୀବନ୍ଧକୁ ଦୁର୍ବଳ କରିଦେଉଛି ନଦୀରୁ ବେଆଇନ୍ ବାଲି ଉତ୍ତୋଳନ। ଘାଇ ସୃଷ୍ଟି ହେଉଛି, ଜନବସତିକୁ ମାଡ଼ି ଯାଉଛି ବନ୍ୟାପାଣି। କେବଳ ସେତିକି ନୁହେଁ, ନଦୀ ଗର୍ଭରୁ ବାଲି ଖାଲି ହୋଇଯିବାରୁ, ବିଗିଡ଼ି ଯାଉଛି ପ୍ରାକୃତିକ ସନ୍ତୁଳନ। ଜଳ ପ୍ରବାହ ପ୍ରଭାବିତ ହେବା ସହ ବଢୁଛି ବନ୍ୟା ଆଶଙ୍କା। ବ୍ରାହ୍ମଣୀରୁ ବୈତରଣୀ ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣରେଖା ହେଉ କି ମହାନଦୀ। ସବୁଠି ଚାଲିଛି ବେଆଇନ୍ ବାଲି ଉତ୍ତୋଳନ। ନଦୀ ବନ୍ଧ ଓ କୂଳରୁ ପ୍ରଚୁର ବାଲି ଉଠାଇ ତିଆରି କରୁଛନ୍ତି କୃତିମ ଦୁର୍ବଳ ଘାଇ। ଫଳରେ ବନ୍ୟା ଆସିଲେ ଘାଇଗୁଡ଼ିକର ଅତଡ଼ା ଧସି ଦୁର୍ବଳ ହେବାରୁ ଭାଙ୍ଗି ଯାଉଛି।
Illegal sand mining is allegedly weakening river embankments and increasing flood risks across Odisha, according to the source report. Excessive sand extraction from the Brahmani, Baitarani, Subarnarekha, and Mahanadi rivers is said to disturb the natural riverbed, affect water flow, and create vulnerable sections along embankments. As floodwaters rise, these weakened stretches are more prone to breaches, allowing floodwater to enter nearby villages and intensify the impact of flooding.
