Puri MLA Sunil Mohanty has reacted to questions over his absence during Sujata Karthikeyan's visit for darshan in Puri, making a strong statement that he is "not a Gumasta" waiting to escort every visitor to the temple. Explaining his position, the MLA said that many attendants near the temple help devotees with darshan arrangements, but it is not possible for him to be present for every individual who visits Puri. He added that if he had been personally invited, he would have attended, and remarked that had Naveen Patnaik directed him to do so, he would have certainly reached there. His comments have since triggered political discussion in Odisha.
