Floodwaters in the Kansabansa and Gamei rivers in Bhadrak have started receding after eight days, but the crisis for farmers is far from over. Hundreds of hectares of agricultural land remain submerged under nearly four feet of water, destroying paddy and vegetable crops. Farmers in the Barantua area of Basudevpur say recurring floods two to three times every year continue to ruin their harvests. They have demanded adequate compensation for crop losses along with a permanent solution to the recurring flood problem.
