Fake BMC Employee Arrested for Allegedly Cheating Man of Over ₹13 Lakh in Bhubaneswar

ଭୁବନେଶ୍ୱର ମହାନଗର ନିଗମର କର୍ମଚାରୀ ପରିଚୟ ଦେଇ ୧୩ ଲକ୍ଷରୁ ଅଧିକ ଟଙ୍କାର ଠକେଇ ଅଭିଯୋଗ। ଏହି ଅଭିଯୋଗରେ ଖାରବେଳନଗର ଥାନା ପୋଲିସ ସରୋଜ କୁମାର ମହାନ୍ତି ନାମକ ଜଣେ ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତକୁ ବଡ଼ଗଡ଼ ଅଞ୍ଚଳରୁ ପୋଲିସ କାବୁ କରିଛି। ବିଏମସି ଘର, ଭେଣ୍ଡିଂ ଜୋନରେ ଦୋକାନ ଓ ସରକାରୀ ଚାକିରି କରାଇଦେବା ନାଁରେ ଠକିଥିଲେ। ଓଡ଼ିଶା ଭବନ ସମ୍ମୁଖରେ ଜଳଖିଆ ଠେଲା ଚଳାଉଥିବା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଙ୍କଠାରୁ ୨୦୨୩ ମସିହାରୁ ୧୩ ଲକ୍ଷ ୭୩ ହଜାର ଟଙ୍କା ନେଇଥିଲେ। ଟଙ୍କା ଫେରସ୍ତ ପାଇଁ ଦେଇଥିବା ଦୁଇଟି ଚେକ୍ ବାଉନ୍ସ ବି ହୋଇଥିଲା। ଗିରଫ ପରେ ଠକେଇ ଟଙ୍କାରେ ଘର ନିର୍ମାଣ ଓ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ କାମରେ ଖର୍ଚ୍ଚ କରିଥିବା ସ୍ୱୀକାର କରିଛି ଅଭିଯୁକ୍ତ।

A man posing as an employee of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been accused of cheating a victim of more than ₹13 lakh in Bhubaneswar. Kharavel Nagar Police arrested accused Saroj Kumar Mahanti from the Badagada area in connection with the case.

According to the allegations, the accused collected money by promising to arrange a BMC house, a shop in a vending zone and government employment opportunities. A snack stall owner operating near Odisha Bhavan allegedly paid ₹13.73 lakh to the accused from 2023 onwards.

Police said the accused had also issued two cheques to return the money, but both were dishonoured after bouncing. Following his arrest, the accused allegedly admitted to using the cheated money for constructing a house and meeting personal expenses.
