A facial recognition system helped the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar arrest an alleged serial mobile phone snatcher. The accused, Kalandi Nayak, was identified using facial recognition technology. Police seized two mobile phones from his possession following the arrest.
According to police, Kalandi Nayak has more than 10 criminal cases registered against him at various police stations. The source states that after being released on bail in an earlier case, he allegedly resumed mobile theft before being arrested again following a complaint.
The case highlights the use of facial recognition technology in assisting police investigations and tracking repeat offenders involved in mobile theft cases.
